Urban DJ is a community generated music poll. A means to discover new music and have fun along the way. To make it even better, it has a competitive element.

The basics

• There are 5 songs/clips to vote on every day. All of them should be on the same topic.
• You have to vote by ordering them from 1 to 5.
• You will earn points based on how many people voted on the same order as you. i.e. The better you can guess the community opinion, the more points you will earn.
• You will have to nominate one video and next round's topic after your vote.
• Next round's topic and songs to vote on will be chosen based on the most popular nominations.

Nominations

• Next round items are calculated based on nominations. The five items are selected based on the number of nominations and the points that their nominators have. i.e. the more "reputable" a user is, the higher the chance that his nomination is to be selected. Also, if multiple people nominate the same item, their points are summed up together to determine the top choices.
• Once there are more than 5 nominations, a special section is opened on the Urban DJ homepage where you can promote some them. By promoting an item, you are giving both to it and your own nomination a higher chance to be selected.

Winning positions

• The winning positions are calculated based on the number of points that each item has. An item being positioned 1st by a person - gives it 5 points; positioning it 2nd - 4 points, etc. Then the items are sorted by the number of points they have based on all users' votes.
• If two songs have the same points, the one with more 1st positions get's the higher position. If they have the same number of 1st positions, the one with more 2nd positions gets the higher position, etc.
• With this in context, it's good to keep in mind that an item may end up in a lower position than most people have put it at. For example, if 6 out of 10 persons have put an item at 1st position, but 4 out of 10 have put it in 5th position, it could end up in 2nd position. (e.g. another one has 4 x 1st + many 2nd and 3rd positions)

Points & Leaderboards

How do you earn points to be placed higher in the leaderboards?

• Voting
  Every time you vote you earn points from 1 to 100 based on how many people voted on the same order as you. For example, if you placed "Item A" as 1st and 57% of the other voters ordered it the same way, you will earn 57 points. i.e. you earn as many points as is the percentage of people matching your vote.
• Nominating songs
  When people vote on a song that you've nominated, you earn points based on the place that it got in the voting. You will get 50 points if your nomination is 1st, and 10 if it's 5th.
• Nominating a topic
  Every time enough people nominate the same topic as you and it gets selected, you earn 20 bonus points.
• Correct position
  Whe you vote on an item and it ends up in the same position as you've put it, you get 10 bonus points.
• Votes strike
  Should you have all your votes matching the community opinion, you get 50 bonus points.
• Promoting songs
  Once there are more than 5 nominations, you can access the "Pending nominations" section. Then, you can promote 2 songs. If they make it to the stage, you get 2 points per position. e.g. if one of your promos is voted 2nd, you get 8 points.
